The Praeneste Terrace sits underneath the statue of the Dying Gaul we saw early on, although in such as way as you might not make the connection. From here you look out towards the Mill and Eyecatcher.

A reminder of the Mill and the Eyecatcher, seen close up, that could be spied in the distance in the early images on yesterday’s post.

Today’s selection takes us along the garden wall and behind Venus’ Vale towards the Temple of Echo, seen just behind the stone coffin. They are from different times of year. I will dig out some summer ones as well.

After posting the decaying plaster sculpture yesterday I thought I would run a tour of the garden over the next two or three days. Today’s crop takes us from the house where we look out over the Cherwell at the Mill (that I posted a while back close up) that Kent remodelled as if part of the garden and placed the Eye Catcher up on the distant hill to similar effect. Our route takes us along the ha-ha that keeps animals out of the park without interrupting the view and out to the Cow Castle, a cow shed elaborated thematically as part of the park. The elaborate gate was where visitors could enter the garden without disturbing the house. We will dive into more mysterious parts tomorrow. The Dying Gaul sits on a terrace we do not suspect but appears for us later on.

The hard shell diving suit was developed out of the engineered hard shell space suits that lost out to sewn soft suits for the Apollo program. A pity about the crude armature holding it up.
