The Moon
The moon is supposed to be close to the earth at the moment, so appears larger and brighter than normal. We have the tail end of Hurricane Bertha passing through, but occasional Joseph Wright like snippets are apparent through the clouds. See:
Hi Nat,
I appreciated your reference to the strange and wonderful painting by Joseph Wright of Darby. I particularly like the painting of an Iron Forge:

He does something special with drawing out the spirit of witnessing new phenomena in the age it was discovered. Wonderful thanks for sharing.
I think the relationship to the moon was a particularly nice touch. It is true that lunar events are one of the few phenomena left that we can witness collectively, from “child to philosopher”, and almost at the same time. And that stretch of that “same time” is what is so nice. It is a bit of a reminder that everything has its own time, especially in this age of instantaneousness.
Hope all is well,
Lancelot
