Two Greenwich Meridians
Two adjacent telescopes are held in these buildings, where the nearest superseded the one to the right (the Bradley Telescope) thus shifting the Greenwich Meridian 19 feet to the East (see inscription below). Not quite sure why I like this story so much, but it accompanies my pleasure in time zone maps. Both open up from front to back along the north – south view of the telescope.
Nat, it’s a good reminder that nothing is fixed. We have a runway that is transitioning for 13-31 to 12-30. It’s still referred to as either, but the heading is moving closer to 120 than 130 (124 currently). Oddly enough the primary runway is not changing from 08-26.
I also think you’d like the runways and the charts for the far north. Because magnetic north is south of the North Pole the isobars for headings converge south when you pass it. The runways are labelled 31T for true north.
I hope Brighton is treating you well.
Best,
Jason
