I am at the Reimagining Resiliency Conference in Montreal, held in a (disused) church. As is usual in such instances, there is a table for the speakers of each session where all at the table face the same way. Less usual is the backdrop, where a sculpture of another group of people sit at a table all facing the same way…

I’m in Montreal for a few days. This morning I went to see Fuller’s dome, which now houses the dullest museum on earth. It would have been much better left as a ruin. It was hard to explore in the snow, but here are a few stereo views.

The timber armature shown here in stereo is the backing for the plaster cast shown below – at the Museum of Architecture, City and Heritage at the Trocadero in Paris.

A Panoramic camera (1866) invented by Auguste Chevallier (died 1868) and fabricated by Lois Jules Duboscq (1817-1886) with some of its photographs – please excuse the shadow of the camera – no other option.

This church interior in Davids Samling in Copenhagen has a curtain in the foreground that at first appears as if it might be part of the main view, but then you see that it has a shadow on the surface of the canvas rather than on the pictorial content (and depth), a little like the (absent) readymades in Duchamp’s Tu M’ (see here) – the curtain is clearly meant to be a trompe-l’oeil covering for the painting. I quite like the way it can  be read either way.
